Director of Financial Aid

Innovation Ads is a private company that specializes in interactive marketing, and on-demand acquisitions for colleges and universities. The Enrollment Management division focuses on helping not-for-profit public schools achieve increased enrollment management performance, as well as profitability.

The Company has recently secured a long-term contract with one of the nation’s leading public universities in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. This client has an executive mandate to achieve aggressive growth goals in its online education programs over the next ten years. The financial aid director will be responsible for evaluating financial aid applications to the online campus, and will be tasked with creating a long-term, scalable, metrics-driven results-oriented financial aid department for the Company as it strives to meet and exceed expectations of the Client.

Financial Aid Responsibilities:
Reporting to the vice president of enrollment management, the director of financial aid will be tasked with building a financial aid team and providing leadership and effective management of the Office of Financial Aid and its staff members. The director of financial aid will manage the processing of financial aid applications, and will be responsible for the daily operations of the office. The director will ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, oversee timely and accurate reports, and coordinate comprehensive services to students. As a key player in the enrollment management division, the director will work collaboratively with the director of admissions, the registrar, the academic advising manager, and the college deans toward achieving targeted enrollment goals.

  1. Strategically directs overall operation of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  2. Actively maintains current working knowledge of Federal, State, and University regulations, policies and procedures, as well as the systems, manuals and equipment necessary to function effectively in the University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and supervises staff in administration of the same.
  3. Hires, supervises, evaluates, makes works assignments, and directs the training and activities of Financial Aid staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will also have experience working at a large public university, demonstrated excellent leadership skills, and the ability to develop, motivate, and manage staff. Comprehensive understanding of state, federal, and system-wide financial aid regulations related to processing and awarding aid, strong technology skills (Banner highly preferred), and the ability to lead and direct staff are essential to success. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated success in collaborating within all levels of the institution toward meeting institutional goals; and the ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community are also required. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to client service and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  1. Master's Degree required or Bachelor's Degree with Director level experience in financial aid, scholarships, or equivalent area;
  2. Counseling and human relations skills; ability to supervise other staff; ability to maintain confidences and to work cooperatively with students, faculty and staff;
  3. At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in financial aid;
  4. Experience hiring and training financial aid officers;
  5. Experience managing at least 20 employees;
  6. Experience using PeopleSoft Enterprise software;
  7. Documented track record for success in increasing enrollments, reducing errors, hiring, training, and building long-term departments;
  8. Experience using Constituent Relations Management (CRM) systems.
